"When I was four years of age, I wandered into an empty chapel. All the grown ups were downstairs at a church supper, and I was exploring. I experienced the depth of the silence in front of that altar. It was a transcendent state, similar to meditation.
Also, when I was four, my mother caught me masturbating. I didn't quite understand what my parents found so upsetting about my behavior--after all, it felt pretty good to me.
Both events have been huge influences in my life. I have spent much of my life seeking to recreate the first experience, and attempting to integrate the second."
Arabella is in her 60’s. She is an artist, an organic gardener, a Sacred Intimate, and a tantrika. She is a generous wise being who is committed to creating beauty through her life.
In 1976, Arabella was initiated by Pir Vilayat Inayat Khan, a Sufi Master of the Chishti Order, and studied with him for 25 years. Eventually, she began searching for a more integrated path, one that included all parts of her being. She longed for a spiritual path that addressed the disconnect between spirit and body, between God and Pleasure, between what we believe and how we live.
She began an exploration of sacred sexuality, which led her to tantra. In tantra, she has discovered the perfect marriage of the sacred and the profane, of the inner and outer worlds, of the fact that she has both an innate desire for the transcendent state and the possibilities of pleasure.
She has studied with Swami Ravi Rudra Bharati (a.k.a. Rudy Ballentine), a student of Swami Rama. She has taught meditation, and led retreats, classes and workshops since 1985.
In her spare time, she reads, pursues the study of Sanskrit, practices yoga, hikes in the Hudson Highlands, and sometimes simply sits in the Honey Yard.
